Third Law Sports were present at Multiplay’s Insomnia58 back in August. This was the first Insomnia event of many which’ll feature a drone racing expo courtesy of an arrangement with the UK Drone Show.
The debut competition had a £5,000 prize pool and saw the racing broadcast on the giant screen at Birmingham’s NEC, with the devilishly dark and neon lit custom built track in another ‘restricted access’ part of the venue.
Luke ‘BanniUK’ Bannister was the eventual victor in a hard fought competition which featured 40 pilots from around the UK. Pilots Matthew ‘add1ct3dd’ Evans, Brett Collis and Leo Whitfield were the runners up and earned their share of the prize money.
Peter Gray, UK Drone Show Host and MD of HiveMind RC, said: “Insomnia58 was for the UK FPV drone racing community a truly landmark event. It was held almost completely in the dark, lit purely by LEDs and UV, and designed to look and feel as as futuristic and challenging as anything seen in the world before. And my god did they deliver.
“When things went right it was poetry in motion. The four fastest pilots putting in some of the closest races I’ve ever seen.”

The drone racing iSeries wasn’t the only drone based action going down at Insomnia58. There was also a mini robot fighting arena featuring many of the same teams which have featured on Robot Wars UK.
You can see some of the scenes from that below:
The iSeries will be back at the NEC twice more before the year is out at the UK Drone Show on December 3-4 and at Insomnia59 on December 9-12.
