Every year the Robot Conflict event at Motorama gets bigger and every year the fans go crazy.
Motorama, a massive motorsports racing event in Pennsylvania, attendees are huge fans of metal fun on a small scale. They watch go kart racing, RC demolition derby, and of course robot death matches. The Robot Conflict event at Motorama is the largest on the U.S. East Coast. Its double elimination competition across 6 different weight classes draws in thousands of people.
Why do people love it so much? The competitors put in hundreds of hours into building twisted metal with twisted designs. The work definitely pays off.
Here’s a taste of what went down.
In the Fairy class are bots weighing 150g (about the size of a cheeseburger). In the first fight, Demise uses its spinning blade to carefully pick apart Denise. The wheel was the first to come flying off.
In the Ant class of 1 pound robots, Klazo and Trivial Jr re-enacted the showdown between Obi-Wan Kenobi and General Grievous. First Klazo exposed Trivial Jr’s beating heart (well, yellow battery). And you know the rest of the story.
Moving up to the 3 pound Beetles now. This is where the metal really starts to fly. While BEST KOREA has many things, it didn’t have the speed to match Super Veloce in green and white.
The 12 pound Hobby competition was topped off with a battle royale, as most of the weight classes are. Indiscriminate mayhem ending in a large scrap heap. What’s not to love?
Big Ripto met up with Triggo in the 30 pound Feathers weight class. A fast-paced, high flying rumble ensued with lots of hard hits. At the end, Triggo fulfills its UFO destiny by flying off into space.
At the Sportsman level crazy weapons are encouraged. Here we see Iron Golem smash with hammer. And Iron Golem miss with hammer.
Robot Conflict will be back at Motorama in 2017. It’s even better in person.
h/t to MikeNCR for filming and compiling the videos from the February 19-21 events.
